We have one of these at the practice hut. I don't use it much as it's terribly noisy...needs shielding, I guess. We also have a Rondo SX6 and an old National Chicagoan, and those trump the Rogue a ton.

You can make music on it, but there are quite a few short cuts in the construction and electronics. It doesn't sound all that great either.

It's about a $50 guitar IMO.

I have other Rogue instruments that are much better built and playing. The square neck resonator, the $45 mandolin and the banjo...even their cheap dreadnaught seems worth the fee...just don't see the same value in the lap steel.

I guess I bought a good one. Mine was not noisy, stayed in tune, and I sold it for a little more than I paid for it.

That's great. I understand quality can vary widely among them. The good thing about MF is that you can send it back for replacement if you get a dud.

I only had to replace the tuners on mine. The electronics are fine for now at least. I may change the pickup at some point.

I bought an Artisan way back when after I had to sell my PSG. I guess I got a good one because it didn't sound that bad. Not a premium lap steel by any stretch of the imagination but if you don't have one it'll fill the void.

I've been fortunate to acquire several PSG's since then and I forgot I had the Artisan until I saw this thread. I bought the kit from GB and did the conversion. I added a $28 pickup from GFS and I have to say it isn't half bad now. At least it's something to take out to jam sessions and on vacation.

I bought a blue one last year during the sale that was on at that time. I also had to replace the tuning keys but other than that it isn't bad. I clip a tuner to the volume knob due to the thickness of the headstock.

I just saw this thread again, and noticed folks are using screws that are too large. It looks like I see a lot of #6 flat heads.

The Retrofit Nut and Bridges are set up for #4 oval head stainless steel screws.

The PLA polymer we use is super rugged and durable, while not indestructible, eg; Tommy Y cranked a set down so hard it warped the nut to the point it snapped in half.

You don't need to attach them as if you were parking the Queen Mary II snug is plenty good enough.

I had a hard time just finding #4 3/4 sheet metal screws. The oval heads were no where to be found.

Yes I was able to get them at ACE. It took some digging to find them. They had plenty of #6 but they had a limited stock of #4 screws.

I avoid Big Orange and Big Blue as much as I can. I usually get better service at my local hardware stores.
