Dirk; I haven't played through a "solid state" amp in over 20 years, so I couldn't tell you what I think.
I did plug into Jim Loessbergs Nashville 400, couple times I sat in to play a few songs with my "Now ex-Wife" Miss Leslie in the "TruCountry" show ...and I sounded good; see if this sounds like me>

Hey Dirk, I did learn one thing about a loud lead player and that is to be on the opposite side of the stage that he is on. I set my amp in front of me and off to the left of me now. I play on the left side of the stage. I had some high frequency issues with my hearing the last few months. Anything I played on the small strings sounded distorted. Costed me a new speaker. Come to find out it was my hearing. Putting my amp where it is now solved the problem. I did learn one thing in all these years and that is that their is no such thing as a lead player that don't play loud!!! Also showing one how to play fill when it is his turn is a big one.

Well that is a tuff call Dirk. You can only make suggestions; but you're not gunna be able to guide someone that doesn't see/hear it. I've eventually had to tell two bands in my life: "I think you guys are great; but I can't get Drunk enough or Loud enough to play with ya'll; I'm gunna ease on down the road".

Lloyd always told me: "Ricky; a great band is musicians up there have a great conversation about the song">..PERIOD.
It is a Conversation; nobody yelling louder then anyone else; nobody talking over anyone; nobody start speaking a language nobody understands right in the middle of a sentence/song...ha...> then you are having a great conversation with the song.....otherwise; what is the freakin point???? Why let musicians talk to you like that musically or as a freakin person....GET OUT OF THERE and find guys interested in have a musical conversation.

I use an Old Sho~bud pot pedal or a old Fender Pot pedal. Yes it's all in the POT man....if you can't find a old/new stock Allen Bradley Type J 500K pot; then get the new Dunlop Pot....neither will fail you..in 3 freakin weeks like Alllllll the other newly made pots. My Sho~bud pedal has the original Allen Bradley Pot in it; so that makes it just over 40 years old.

Thanks so much for Links!!
Tom is sending me a couple today
What is your opinion on the Vibrosonic reverb vs the twin.
I realize that its two twelves vs 15"
and a 8 ohm out put transformer. Is there that much difference?
Had to keep away the mob(college girls) after using your settings on twin a couple of weeks ago!

Vibrosonic is a great Amp with the JBL D-130F...about the same power of a Twin. Twin runs two 8ohm speakers to a 4 ohm load...as that is what I run....two 8 ohm JBL K-130's and that makes a 4 ohm load. Everything in its own cabinet so not one thing is heavy. To me there's not a lot of difference between any Fender Tube amp after you get over a 100 watts of power per amp. Speakers? yes? 1 or 2 speakers? yes> to me "what speakers and where are they" is how you hear it...that is the diff.
Cool on the College Girls swarming the cool sounding rig....stay with it.

I remember playing a College Kid gig years ago with a group of guys that were half my age. The guys in my group were really enjoying themselves, because they were the same age as the crowd we were playing for. A group of kids came up and were talking to the guys on break. One of them looked over at me, and said, "Hey Look, It's A Old Guy". I worked with these guys for about two years. Had a great time.

Well I'm 58 years old and play and produce a bunch of 30 year olds...and we were setting up one time and they were saying how I'm the "Dad" of the group; so I went out in front of the stage and took off my over-shirt and flashed the muscles that would kick their a$$ if they get outta line...haaa....then they all shut up.

Hey Ricky, LOL on that one!!!! Reminds me of back in the day we were a doing house gig for about six months. Our crowd was 25 thru 35 year olds. When we were on break one of the youngsters came up and bought us a shot and a beer. The guys in my group, (all young guys, half my age), was trying to figure out what to do with a shot and a beer!!! So they started to sip the shots!! I said, no-no, this is how you do it youngun's, You slam the shot of whiskey and then you chase it with the beer!!! The funny part of the hole story, is that I very rarely ever drank alcohol and they knew it. Memories from the old days. HA!!! Almost 70 now and looking back and how time has moved on...
