Got my copy (CD) yesterday and have listened to it three times today. It is what I expected. A one hour live recording at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, Ca. in Aug., 1973. And YES, It is very good. Too much talking but good. Red plays very well on it. And as the liner notes point out he and Mike Nesmith read each other's mind well. The Producer, (Ed Heffelfinger) did an excellent job on this. He left some small glitches in the tape as well as letting the tape just run out. Very original tape recording.I liked it. And lots of good information & pictures in liner notes. J.R. Rose

Wow. great find. I love Red's playing, many times more relaxed than the studio versions.
He was a most original player,easy recognisable. I had the opportunity to play his double neck with the one keyless neck. I was completely lost!.

Got mine a couple of days ago and what a treasure! Great job, y’all. The first Nez solo record with Red was one of two records that made me go buy a steel guitar!

Zig Zag Concert

Post by Richard Alderson »

Disclaimer - I know nothing about Nesmith;
There is a five CD Collection out there that has Nesmith live with Red Rhodes, from 1974; The Amazing Zig Zag Concert; I thought it was kind of an unusual line up, just two musicians, Mike Nesmith and Red Rhodes, no other band members.

I have an old Freddy Weller album - "Games People Play." This is an excellent album for all Red Rhodes fans. I love it. Great playing by Red throughout. This record is from around 1969-70, approx. I don't know if it's still available anywhere or not.
Steeless.
