About the closest you will find is the Music Works in El Cerrito (20 mins from SF)or if it is a big Emergency, in an hour you could get out to Tom Bradshaw's place and he could get you back out on the road.

It's not a particularly STEEL shop, but, Gary Brawer's shop on Lafayette St (just off Mission near S. Van Ness in SF) has a very good steel PLAYER working there, who did the orig. check-out/setup/tuneup on my Carter- His name is Max- he works in the back of the shop, and you ought to ask for him in particular, since he's the store's steel expert. This store is absolutely the BEST place in the city for guitar repair also, and they'll fix just about everything that wears strings, too. So that's my reccomendation, and they are in town, too, to spare ya a long drive out.

Thanks guys, I forwarded this information on to him. Unfortunately, he ended up cutting his hand severly while moving some gear, and spent the evening of his show in the ER. Ironically, Michael J. Fox showed up and took over. Oh wait, I'm getting this confused with Back To The Future. That last part really didn't happen and the band played steel-less. Oh well.

Thanks for the info. I work in San Francisco and I've lived in the Bay Area for 26 years, but I hadn't heard of the stores on Mission St. or in El Cerrito. You learn something knew every day.
