Steel Player on Webb Pierce: "There Stands The Glass" ???

Post by robert kramer »

Does anybody the steel player on Webb Pierce's "There Stands The Glass" cut 3/25/53 in Nashville. It's non-pedal and not listed anywhere I can find. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Thanks Mr. Davidson. Billy Robinson is living in the Nashville area. I will contact him. These are great leads - and it could be Bud Issacs before pedals. Wonder why such an important record is not documented that good.

Robert if Billy didn't play on it, he probably knows who did.

Praguefrank is usually the most reliable source for credit info on old recordings. That page is here: http://countrydiscoghraphy2.blogspot.co ... art-1.html

It lists only a "?" for steel on that session. The steeler on the previous session a couple of months prior was Bob Moore, most of the other players are the same. The next session a couple of months after it was Don Davis.

When I checked LP Discography it gave me these:
Billy Robinson, Jimmy Day, Bob Foster, Bud Issacs, Sonny Burnette. So out of those I guessed Billy or Bud.

Thanks to all for your replies. As I recall The Bear Family Box Set didn't list the steel player, either. I always assumed "Bob Moore" was an error - that they were mixed up with the bass player. Don Davis is a good candidate, too. I try and contact Billy today. Thanks again.

I am reading Kenneth Barker’s dissertation on steel guItar, and he credits the steel on “there stands the glass” to Bud Isaacs.

I seem to recall that as being played by Curly Chalker.

Bud Isaacs played steel on "Slowly". I love the steel on "There Stands The Glass"
