| I have a distortion issue trying to track down. I am getting distortion sound from strings 1 thru 5 basically. I notice more if I play 2 and 3 strings at a time. I am using a NV 112. I have been using it for 12 years now. If I play with low volume it is clean. As I increase volume it starts to distort. I am running no effects. I go from guitar to volume pedal and then to amp. I checked the cables and all are good. I switched out my Hilton volume pedal with my Goodrich and still have the same issue. Can the guitar cause a issue like that? I thought maybe it was a pick up but I still have the same issue on C6. Guitar is a Sho Bud Super Pro. Could amp be getting weak? Speaker? |

Hi Kevin, here are some things to check, in case you have changed any of them recently. The first two will reduce the input level from your steel to the amp for the cleanest possible signal. The last one will check for too much boost in the EQ section. I'll assume the reverb is off, and there's nothing plugged into the jacks for Pre EQ, Post EQ, Power Amp or Pre Amp.
1. Use the 2nd input jack (low gain) rather than the first input jack (high gain).
2. Turn down the Pre-Gain level to 3 or lower. You can turn up the Master Gain to compensate and get your desired volume level.
3. If the Low, Mid, High or Presence knobs are set for boost (higher than zero @ 12:00 noon), turn them down to zero (noon) or lower.

My old amp tech is kicking in.
I would suspect something in the amp. More the preamp section and even a bad/dirty pot.
Try connecting a guitar cord between the out and in on the pre eq patch, post eq patch and the preamp out/power amp in, one at a time and see if anything changes. |

Hey Kevin, check out your speaker, if you need a speaker I have one, you have a lot of miles on that one, if its not the speaker could be a cap. or resisitor.

Try a different, known-good amp to isolate the problem.
