SOLD - Pending Payment - 1970's Standel TruSonic Speaker

Post by Dan Kelly »

$140.00 plus ride. PayPal OK. Shipping weight is 24 pounds from zip code 01451. Will be shipped in a well packaged and protective box designed for a 15 inch speaker - See pic below.

Rare Standel TruSonic 15 inch speaker from the 1970's in good original shape. Condition is used but very clean with some "rash" on the magnet housing.

This rare and sought after 15 inch vintage speaker was known, in its time, as a "JBL Killer." Today it is recognized for it's clean, round and beautiful tone. It has particular appeal in applications for pedal steel guitar an lap steel. To my ears, it certainly has a bright clear and generally clean tone.

Handles 45 Watts program and 90 watts peak
3 inch diameter voice coil and edge wound aluminum ribbon
Cast frame
Alnico magnet
Frequency Response 20 to 14,000 Hz
15" dia. x 7 7/8" deep
8 Ohms

Danny McKinney at Standel commented on this speaker in 2005 through a post on the Steel Guitar Forum. He is quoted as saying:

"In 1968 Standel bought Trusonic in an attempt to replace the D-130Fs that had changed from the D130. Bob Crooks felt they had gone down in tonal quality. At the time, Trusonic was a few blocks away from the Standel factory, Santa Anita address. The SS115 is an outstanding speaker and you are fortunate to have (it). They are very rare and have a unique tone."

Hey Larry! Good to hear from you. The last time we crossed paths was at the Norwalk, CT show.... what, in 2014?

At any rate, per your suggestion, I corrected the confusing price drop info. The price is $170.00. THANKS!
