If it is a blond Stringmaster, that would be swamp ash. Very Happy

I gather there were some early D8s in walnut. But most seem to be swamp ash (even the dark finished ones). I wonder if they used alder later, given alder's common use as a Fender wood, but I've never seen it mentioned...

Surely it's ash. There were some early Duals and Customs that were walnut, but all the Stringmasters were ash. I have heard possibly of some poplar in the later '60s.

The original Blonde finishes were always Northern Ash, Fender never used Swamp Ash until they they started doing custom shop guitars in the 1990s or there abouts.

What is the difference between Northern Ash and Swamp Ash? Weight, tone, looks?
