| i have been wanting to try one for a while. i think i would want the one that mounts to the leg of a pedal steel and has the power supply with the re chargeable battery. also want to be able to tune my fiddle with it. any advice on which one to buy and where to buy at the best price would be appreciated?....thanks jack |

| Who would you recommend to purchase one at the best price? I would like to buy a package deal with the bracket that mounts to the leg of the guitar? Also I don’t know if they all come with a rechargeable battery....thanks jack |

My two cents...when the Strobe Tuners first came out, I just had to have one. Bought one from Peterson and really didn’t like it...sold it within two weeks. This was back in 2006 or so. Well, I jumped back in earlier this year and bought the new Peterson StroboStomp HD...love this tuner! Sold my 10 year old tuner...Sweetwater is where I bought mine and of course they have a great return policy if you don’t like the gear you buy. Good luck with your choice... Carl
P.S. I also bought the Peterson StroboClip HD...clips on Guitar/Fiddle/Banjo...it's a dandy!

+1 for the StroboPlus HD.
Another option is the StroboClip Clip HD. Its a smaller clip on type. It doesn't come with pedal steel programs but easy to load them. I like it as no guitar cords needed and no potential degradation of signal if its left in line. |

| Jack, you specifically mentioned requiring that the battery be rechargeable, that option is only available in the 'StroboPlus HD' I believe..Sweetened presets are available for multiple instruments including fiddle. The 'Stroboclip' may be another option but has limitations, may want to read Jack Stoner's post regarding this subject before deciding. |

You will get your best price at Sweetwater plus free shipping. I cannot offer that.
There is hardly any profit margin on these tuners so I have stopped stocking them.
But I will say, Peterson is the best there is.

My StroboClip HD has my steel programs (basically the Newman Sweetened) plus the default chromatic "EQU" program. I can tune guitar, bass, fiddle or whatever with the EQU so I don't really lose anything. Its $79 versus the $149 (list) for the StroboPlus HD.
The StroboPlus HD does have a rechargeable ni-cad battery but does not have the charger. It has a USB cable and can be charged from a computer USB connection or with a user supplied 5VDC charger such as an iPhone charger. |

I like my peterson Strobo stomp HD just fine, switching between Se9 and SP9 settings all the time is kind of annoying but I don't see any alternatives, if you want to tune open and pedals down separately. And you would need a piezo clip on if your fiddle doesn't have a pickup/
The only other small strobe I've seen (that's not a bench tool that costs $many hundreds or more) is https://www.turbo-tuner.com/

| Just a thought about my (somewhat older) Peterson StroboFlip tuner. It's on when I need it, and off most of the time, and the batteries seems to last a VERY long time. Having them be rechargeable would be nice, but not critical, given how long they last in this one. |

Based on your criteria, I think you are looking at a Peterson Strobo plus, as it has the rechargeable option. I have one of these and I think it’s ok. I also have a Sonic Research, which I like better. Both have tuning offsets and do the job well. Sonic Research, I think, is only making a pedal version, at this time. The one that clips onto a leg uses a tri-pod mount and can use the Peterson clamp. These show up for sale occasionally.
The sonic research display is easier, for me, to read. It also is easier, again for me, to navigate.
There is a learning curve with using these tuners. Once I became comfortable with one of these, it was obvious that I could never go back to using a TU-12 type of tuner.

| I actually just bought my first Peterson tuner this week. I went with the StrobeStomp HD because of the 9v power pass through which will allow me to jumper my Boss DD8 and Hilton Pro Guitar VP(9v model) using one power supply for everything. |
