Buddy Emmons on the Touch My Heart album. With Ray Price, of course. The title cut is a favorite of mine but, the entire album still leaves me spellbound by it's sounds. "I Lie A Lot" from the TMH album is super cool. I love all the cuts on that record. It was the album that made me want to play.

As far as I know, Buddy cut that album with the Wrap-Around which later became known as "The Wagon." I believe Buddy once said that that horn had so much sustain that to mute it he had to pour water on it..!!

Amen, Tiny! Contrary to popular opinion, this is the quintessential Emmons/Price album. As a side note, (no pun intended) I actually played this album with a metronome and it stayed closer to the metronome than any other album I owned at the time (which was a lot!) YMMV

Hey I figured this one out today! I'll try to put up a video lesson on it if anyone is interested... I've seen a tab and there is one video lesson up but, at least to my ear, neither are all that correct.... so i just dove in and figured it out... great solo for sure.

So I figured this out. I think there are a couple of "Franklin Pedal" moves on here that I could not quite get but none of the big phrases... I refered to the video to definitely see the positions and most of this is pretty dang close... of course sometimes you can miss a harmony underneath or something... and I'm sure Paul didn't play it the same way twice... but great solo... the run up on the V chord G is worth the price of admission really.

I've been practicing a LOT during the shutdown but not as much pedal steel as acoustic and electric guitar... part of why i was looking for suggestions.. just some inspiration. Thanks!

Good job on that Josh- a fun one for sure! I'm thinking that when Paul uses his 1st string raise on the 13th fret he follows it up w his 2nd string raise as well (3-1++, 4-2+ doing the unison thing allowing for just a small gliss of the unison note). Scales are truly the key aren't they?

For sure Rolene. Some of the richest and sweetest steel ever played was by Tom Brumley on the Dwight Yoakam stuff.

Marsha Thornton with Tom Brumley on steel, on a great old Buck Owens song! Marsha had a few charting songs back in the early 90s, then unfortunately largely faded from the mainstream scene as country music "evolved".

On another point about this whole topic - to have a great steel solo, you need a great song with a great singer and a great band. All of that present here.
