NICE !

Its good to see this one pop up again. This exercise by Buddy ( free as well ) covers a couple of stock pockets which covers more ground than humanly expected ! Its time for me to go back and revisit this as the first time, years back, gave me a handful of fret board pocket locations that I use and abuse ! I never actually put the second half of what Buddy presented to use , time to do so !

Whats also interesting is comparing this to Jeff Newmans
C6th pocket study, its the same pocket study with Buddys twist on the approach.

Thx for posting, fine playing ! :D

There is enough knowledge/instruction on Buddy's website to last a normal picker a lifetime of study. A HUGE BIG shout out to Ernie Renn for keeping it open!!!

Nice work Jean. A reminder of how much is there from Buddy. Back to the woodshed for me.

Thanks a lot guys, it took me a lot of work and I still have to work on my intonation and timing! I learned a lot from that song! I especially love the chord work, I was knowing single lines pockets from playing lap steel but the chords with the pedals are amazing!

Buddy's technique and feel is incredible and working on this tune make me realize it more.

One cool thing about Blues To Use is that it emphasizes subsitiution of the 5 minor in a standard blues progression. E was all about the 5minor and the Circle Of 5ths.
Logistically speaking, Blues To Use is the absolute basis for all of the Martino influenced lines that Buddy played. The exercise he called The Snake (which I believe was published in Tom Bs mag in the 70s) ties the pockets together. While mot a solo per se, when executed will take you through the areas where E found the things that appealed to his ear when soloing.
I always recommend Blues To Use to anyone that asks
me about playing C6, especially when it comes to single note lines. Thanks to Ernie for keeping it going.

Hey Mike,,I agree re: thanks to Ernie for keeping Buddy's site open for the enlightenment of those coming up that may not be as aware of Buddy's contributions. I'm wondering if there is an expense involved for Ernie that he might need some help with?

Mike Cass

Great to see your posts on Forum.

During one of the two D10 PP restorations that you meticulously performed for me: '67 Bolt on and '79 Cut Tail - both now 8 + 8
you mentioned BE's use of the 5 minor in lieu of the one chord.....
....that 5 minor is easily located 'two frets below the Open One Chord fret location.'

Folks: try it, you'll like it

and Best Regards to mc
