Howard Parker demonstrates amplifying the dobro
Howard Parker did a great video explaining how to amplify a resonator guitar. He walks through his pedalboard and explains what each pedal does. It's long, about 45 minutes, but a great overview.

Thanks Brad!
Ahhh...Thanks Brad.
I'll just note that a chunk of the video pertains only to spider bridge (dobro) style guitars.
Hope it is useful!

BTW so long as there are no drums in the band, I've been satisfied using the Roland AC33 alone with just a mic. The AC33 is similar to the fishman amp. You can also plug in a pickup for those situations with a loud drummer. This unit has anti-feedback which helps in getting a decent volume. It can also be battery operated which I'm finding real convenient.

Hey Howard,
I have a question for you (and I'm sure others can chime in as well): to what extend does he Nashville pickup and JD Aura pedal mask each individual resos unique tonal qualities? Since it uses sound images from Jerry on his instruments, does a vintage Dobro, for example, sound more like a Beard E-body, or does it still keep the vintage tone through the aura pedal?
Thanks!

Pedal steel, lap steel, resonator, blues harp - why suck at just one instrument when you can do so on many?

You will still retain characteristics of your guitar. The Aura "images' are an "essence" of a guitar through a particular mic at a particular distance. I have the system on 3 guitars and they all retain their individual characteristics.
The Aura has been around for almost a decade now. There is certainly newer technology available, the Felix preamp by Grace design allows for a lot of customization. The Tonedexter includes expanded functionality and includes the ability to record your own guitar's character into the box.
As mentioned in the video, my system is "basic" and has met my needs for many years.

This interview with Fishman's Director of Product Management may shed a bit of light on the technology.
