I do too,Dean!I always miss those two little strings on the outside,though...that's a big part of the sound for me...you can't deny Emmons and Day during this time,though...they were literally inventing what we do!

I don't know if it's correct or not, but Praguefrank's discography argues it's probably Frank Juricek on this and some other sessions around this period in 1956:

I love the early Starday/Mercury Jones period too. Raw and heartfelt.

We recorded the song on Craig Dillingham 15-20 years ago and used this version as a"work tape"...CD was a good friend of Day's and told us that Jimmy told him that he had played on the"original",whatever that means...???

This is the '56 version. It's clearly older than the OP version and not Jimmy Day so I guess this would be Frank Juricek.

That makes sense. I also thought there were only two versions, but thought they were '56 and '96, here's the '96 version:

The '96 version was done for the soundtrack of the 1996 Kevin Costner movie "Tin Cup".
