Hi everybody, you may have seen Rick's YouTube detailing his E9 setup.
Well here is copedant for BOTH necks. I asked him about his layout - he agreed to give it to me if I would create an electronic version that he could share. Given how extensive his copedant is - it took a little forethought & work to make it.

Back when I was taking C6 lessons from him I was always floored at how he would be playing chords like McCoy Tyner & solos like Coltrane while casually chatting with me at the same time.Amazing. The scary thing is he plays piano & guitar just as well!!!!!!

He wanted me to point out that his Pedal 9 works on both necks & requires double footing for the E9 neck.

This layout is an adventure just to try and understand.

But I've seen him create music live that mere mortals can't begin to accomplish.

Jim

Thanks for doing this, Jim! Lots of similarities between my copedents and Rick's, my Mullen D12 has the zero pedal and override, it's crazy useful.

Have you taken delivery on your new Rittenberry yet?

Thanks for charting all that out for me Jim! I’m pretty spreadsheet challenged at the moment...ha!
In my defense, as far as my over the top set-up goes, I played an extremely basic D10 ShoBud Professional with 8 pedals and only 2 KLs (without lowering the top E) for the first 30 years. ..and of course as we all know, there’s a lifetime of learning and great music to be made on a great instrument like that! 😎
But... I kept looking for chord voicings that I played on other instruments and nothing was revealing itself to me... so I kept brewing up ideas in my head until I found a great deal on a D12 Dekley by accident about 19 years ago. That was a game changer for me! 🤔

Now I have a beautiful D12 INFINITY ( thanks Frank Carter!!!) that reveals new stuff to me every day.... before I go to my bass gig 🤠

Hi John,
Sad to say, I still don't have my new Rittenberry yet. Hopefully soon.
Working on Rick's coped ant was part of my work on my own setup. How'r things going out there in the great Northwest?

I’ve got his first pedal on E9, the E to C# and D to D#. I call it “the Rick Schmidt change”.
Don’t know who started it.
I use the D# much more than the low C#. I wish there was a way to nullify the low C# and occasionally keep it an E, for major7 chords with that half step on 9/8.
Love it.

John, the way I found it was just by accident...just like how I found my first D-12 in the first place Do you do the split that defeats the low string E-F when the Zero pedal is engaged?

Hi Rick. On my 2 ext E9s one has the E raise on 12, and yes that raises the C# when the zero pedal/E raise is engaged. No split to defeat the string 12 raise. That would be great.

The other guitar has your zero pedal but I don’t raise 12 with the E’s. So the C# stays on C#min9 and C#major.

I've watched this video many times as my experience with Extended E9 (or ExtD9 in my case as I downtune a step) has grown over the past couple of years. There are still things Rick's doing that I don't fully understand, but when I come back every few months to rewatch this, a little more becomes clear.

Thanks Rick for creating this vid, there's really nothing else on youtube explaining extended E9 out there. I'd highly recommend anyone starting out in ExtE9 to watch this a few times and study Rick's copedent earlier in this thread Winking

Hey John....you can always tell if I’m nervous... I smile a lot! 😅
Actually, I had a total blast at the show! It was my first, hopefully not my last.
Now if I don’t get sick, it was totally worth it!
If I do, it was...almost...worth it!!! 🤔
