My friend and former band mate, Mark "Getty" Emerick just called to tell me this. Sad news.

We did some shows with The Riders while I was playing for Cody. Buddy and Dave Nelson were fun to be around. Buddy and I had some good conversations.

Buddy put up a long fight over the past few years with his illness. He's at rest now. He leaves behind a big legacy..!!

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

Very sorry to hear about Buddy; he was my very first pedal steel influence when I got into the New Riders with the Powerglide album. I met him once at a country music convention & I also played with a band that he was in 2 or 3 steelers before me & lemme tell you...I was terrified to try & fill those shoes.

Very sad.
A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag.

Rest in Peace Buddy...just like Rich, Buddy was one of the first pedal steel players I heard as a very young man and he really opened my ears to genres of music and an instrument I had not yet heard, but came to love. Thanks Buddy.

In July of 2016 the New Riders with Buddy on Steel played a summer concert in the park at Norwich, NY. I attended and it was a great show. Buddy was playing well and up in the mix. RIP Mr. Cage.

Buddy Cage

Buddy was a long time friend of mine. We met at 12 years old taking Hawian guitar lessons at The Ontario Conservatory of music. We went to high school together and he used to come over to my house with his steel guitar and we'd set up our guitars in the living room and play together for hours. That ticked off my brothers and sister, but we didn't care, we were having fun. His death is a real heart breaker for me. The last time I saw him was at a show with the New Riders of The Purple sage in Seattle about five years ago.
