Have the seller take hi def photos of the steel, case and shipping carton before they send it, just in case.

Yes!
But.... make sure the shipping company actually covers what's insured.
I shipped a steel by FedEx, and after the fact was told that they don't insure instruments of a certain age, which included mine.
Thankfully, no problems ensued.
When I shipped a different steel, UPS told me that they don't have that stipulation. Also delivered successfully).
So, insurance, YES, but make sure you know the details.

With UPS it is not insurance. It is declared value. Big difference. And UPS is next to impossible to settle a claim with. I use USPS as often as I can for shipping. They take care of the package better and claims get taken care of also.
