Derby Pedal Steel Info

Some time back, with the help of forum member Jerry Overstreet, I was able to get and put up on my One Drive, the available information about Derby Pedal Steels. This morning I was notified that the original link no longer worked, and asked if I could put it up again. Long story shorter, everything I tried was for naught. Until, I got this link and it was pasted into his web browser.

So, if you want the available info on Derbys, paste this link into your browser. It should work.

It seems Micro Soft in their infinite wisdom and probable zeal to protect us all, has changed what used to be "Public" on my One Drive to files that I alone can get into. Try it, I hope it works. It has, at least a few times today.

The link seems to work (for me anyway) if you copy and paste the whole thing, but only the part up to the exclamation mark is treated as a link by the software/browser, so clicking on it doesn't work.

Dick, you might try replacing the exclamation mark in the link with the URL encoding for the exclamation, which is '%21'. (Percent sign, followed by number 21).

The link works but you have to highlight all of it per Randy's reply. Some of it in Dick's link isn't. A condition I failed to point out to him. My bad. Thanks for fixing it all where people can still use it though Dick.

But all the credit goes to Jerry. He mailed the info to me and I just scanned and put it up. I have no clue what MS is up to or why my original "public" link no longer worked. Maybe I need a back up cloud some where to cut MS out of the loop.

Has anybody ever see any pictures of Charlie Stepps work shop where he built the Derbys? I would love to see them.

Thanks for that post Dick! I donâ€™t own a Derby yet but for years a black SD10 Derby has been a dream of mine. Twice Iâ€™ve seen one up for sale in driving range and both times someone has beaten me to it. Thenâ€¦.the next week it will be up for sale at a higher price. I get aggravated and donâ€™t buy it. Maybe someday?

Dan, sorry you keep missing out. I'll keep an eye out! I can throw rocks and hit 10 Derby players in my area. Charlies shop was an easy drive for folks around here and not much better steel made.

I just had a question from Ron: "What is the Allen screw size at the changer end of a Derby?" Well mine are 7/64s of an inch. This is what I made to keep from loosing my Allen wrench, even thought I had never lost it.

Cheap Ernie Ball tuning tool, Dremel and cut off blade, drill and a dab of epoxy. Easy peasy! This one is 15 years old.

thanks Dick. I'll save this info. I dont ever plan on selling or trading my Derby. I have had it for 20 years and only changed a few tuner keys. Other than that It has performed flawlessly over the years.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures although I was at the Stepp's once probably 20 or so years ago. The shop as I remember was a detached garage behind the house. No expert by any means but I have also been impressed by Derby steels, actually seemed really similar to an Emmons LeGrande.
