Used to have one of these. Mine was in pretty crappy condition, but it sounded pretty good. ca 1950, I believe. Body is hollow.
I've seen several variations on this guitar. Mine had a 3-position switch to turn on the pickups. Mine also had a tone knob, I believe.
The one for auction must just use the volume knobs for each pickup to select which neck is on. |

| I have seen many of these and I believe that this one is missing all of the original brown finish paint from the body-seriously decreases any collector value-The single neck black bakelite guitars always bring more $$$ even though these are double neck-the necks are bakelite and the body is metal [This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 21 February 2002 at 02:21 PM.] |

| Yeah this one has been screwed around with some but that just means the "vintage" profiteers might stay out of the auction and you should be able to get it cheap. And if you're a player who plays two tunings,I think it could be cleaned up real nice.I've played one and they do sound great - very much like a penguin.Since the old paint has been stripped,I'd have the body chrome plated to suit myself.Hell with collectability. -MJ- |

I've got one. The model is D-16. Mine is about a 1950 and it has the original gold/tan paint, 3 way pickup selector switch, 1 volume knob, and 1 tone knob. It sounds good and it's built like a tank! I often wondered why Rikenbacker didn't offer legs for this model. It's pretty heavy for the lap. The underside of mine looks like it had been fitted (or retrofitted) for a stand at one time.
