Ted at Melobar has a used 7 string lap steel on their website. It was returned by the customer, because it sounded too much like a Fender Stringmaster.???

That son of a gun Ted! You've got to watch him! He's always doing stuff like that! He could at least make them sound like a Guyatone!

That's a smile Howard,
Anybody wants to try the guitar it's a money back guarantee, all you'd be out is shipping. Bill Leff is the guy that bought the guitar, it has a Kent Armstrong Jazz pickup and that is a quote from Bill that it sounded too much like a Fender Stringmaster. That is a flavor that is bright and "bighty", I played the guitar when it came back and did adjust my amp with bass and reverb, and I changed to a heavier gauge string set from what Bill wanted on it, the string gauge and tuning I do believe had a lot to do with the tone. Normally if someone wants a different tone we'll change pickups for free, but there are few 7-string pickups available.

and as Paul Harvey says...and that's the rest of the story.

Well I got ta tell ya Jody! My Bluegrass voice is a coming along - just takes age - stress - and lots of wood dust.

Ted, just wondering, wouldn't fiberglass dust be better than wood dust?

Ya, the fiberglass fibers go more into the lungs and give that raspy Stanley brothers sound.
