It depends what you are looking for and where your interests lie. If you are at all like me, I can get something out of anything with PSG on it (non-pedal has also hooked me pretty good).

If you are trying to play in a band situation with vocals, the new Martina album "Timeless" has been mentioned and that is excellent. Contrary to some things I've heard about steel not being on a lot of current Country radio material, I find it all over the place, so just find stuff you like in current material as far as that goes.

Of the mostly instrumental PSG which you should absolutely start a collection. Llyod Green's "Revisited" is very "nice". You have to check out Randy Beavers. I'm most familiar with his "Still a Way Without Words" and "My Favorite Things" CD's. Not all "Country", but "blow you away" inspiring. Of course, any Buddy Emmons and many of the others already mentioned. There are many great players I haven't gotten to myself yet, but those are a few from a fellow relative newbie.

As far as instruction and playing Country, Jeff Newman first off. Many others too. Check out the Forum areas on CD's and Instructional Material.

All listed above are great players for sure. If I had one player to recommend to newer PSG players, it would be early Tom Brumley with Buck Owens.... some of the tastiest backup steel playing ever, IMHO.
