Hi All

Following advice given on the Forum,I have downloaded 2 pieces of Tab.
I have never used Tab,so it all looks a bit strange to me,but I think I have worked out how to use it,except, can you tell me what these mean

~10A or just ~ on it's own.

Thanks

Alan

This: ~10A, denotes bar movement with the pedal down as opposed to this: 10~10A, which means pick the note and then pedal. I'm not sure what this: ~, by itself means.

I use ~ in TAB to denote a smooth movement, such as a slide or pedal off/off.

The note is only picked once.

It is never used on it's own, it always connects two or more notes. Similar to a TIE or SLUR is standard notation.

Alan,
I looked at the "Help Me MAke It Thru The Night" tab. The "~"s are used there to indicate ties and slurs, as normal.

What is a bit different is the way he indicates engaging a change while leaving the other strings ring.

Example:
In the first line he picks strings 10, 8, 7 at the third fret, no pedals. Then he engages the E lever on string 8, while 10 and 7 continue to ring.

I would have tabbed this as:

6_________________________________
7________3__~__3___________________
8________3__~__3E__________________
9__________________________________
10_______3__~__3___________________

He tabbed it as this:
6_________________________________
7________3_____~__________________
8________3__~__3E__________________
9__________________________________
10_______3_____~___________________

Same thing. The main thing is the strings are only picked once.

TAB is informal, and there are no real standards.
