here's a little thing our soundman gave us as a joke,
Attention Band Members,
After giving this several minutes of consideration, I have decided all future bands (and band members) will have to come into submission (and to the will of) the one acknowledged representative of the band (me). That representative will have the power to make decisions in all matters (whether temporary or final) that concern the band and its members. Furthermore, the band members must submit their will with no "behind the back" discussions from band members or amongst band members.
These new rules MUST be implemented in order to have a reliable, functioning music organization that does not allow future practices or jobs to be missed or conflicts to arise amongst the band members and their leader, as has been the practice at practices and on jobs in the past.
These rules will include the following:
1) No one will even hint to me (or give me the impression) that they want to, or would even consider, having an opinion concerning the professional activities of this band. This will not be tolerated, as this only leads to whisperings behind the back of the experienced leader of the organization. This has been a problem in the past and will no longer be tolerated or permitted.
2) If anyone thinks they might buy a new piece of equipment (say a box trailer, etc.), DON'T ! If you even feel the urge to consider such an act, call me so I can quickly and effectively scold you for thinking for yourself. If I feel we need a new piece of equipment I will notify you and then you can buy it.
3) If anyone thinks they may want to call a special practice (even if it is on a regular practice day). DON'T ! If I feel you need to practice and if I want you to practice, I'll let you know! Just be ready at all times to practice.
4) Let me make this clear, I will book all jobs and since I book the jobs, I can also un-book the jobs. It will be no concern to you or any other band member whether I coordinate cancellations of jobs with the club owner or not. Hell, I may not have even coordinated it with the club owner when I booked it!
5) Furthermore, if I want you to stand in any particular place on stage, (You will ask me, How long do you want me to stand here?") My authority will not be questioned on this. If I want you to stand somewhere I will have a reason. The stage arrangement may just happen to be more appealing to me that way or, your breath may be offending me. Regardless, If I want it that way, you should too. If I then decide to rearrange the personnel on stage, I'll be the first to let you know!
6) Additionally, If I want to rearrange a number during the show, I will do it! Not you! That responsibility is for the official song caller, which of course is me.
7) There will be amendment to this list as I see fit and as necessary to reduce as much stress and anxiety from me as possible. (Keeping me anxiety free should also keep you anxiety free.)
If anyone has any question or comments please call 1(800)EATS--T and leave me a voice message.
Sincerely,
Your New Song Caller
