Anyone ever see old Sho bud D8s?? Similar to the one Lee Jeffries plays in Big Sandys band??? I'm curious as to how many are around.

Actually that's Jimmy Roy playing the D8 Sho-Bud with Big Sandy. I don't know how many there are. |

I knew an 8 string Sho Bud player would eventually pop up here. It's been a long time since I heard from you, Michael, I think you were in New York at the time.

Michael,
Maybe it was Chicago, my memory seems to be failing me, although I believe we had a mutual friend , Robert Gear. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My mom had one (cut my teeth on it). Sure wish I still had it.... pedal rods as big as a pencil, and a whole lot of wrong holes drilled into the underneath side.... but beautiful maple to be sure! Of course, no knee levers. Looks just like the one that is used by Big Sandy's player... thought it might be until I read that his steel came from another steeler.

Michael,
I haven't heard from Robert Gear since 1980, I spoke with Bev King a few years ago, and she told me , she heard Robert passed away.
The years pass quickly, much to my dismay, thanks for your response. By the way , I'm quite fond of 8 string steel guitars , I love the Sho Buds.
Take care Michael.

I thought about it , but didn't bid on it. The bridge plates didn't look right to me , although after all this time , many modifications may have been made .

Not to worry guys, the one on ebay wasn't a Sho Bud. I don't know what it was but definately not a Bud, despite of the fretboards and the "fins" on the headstocks. |

Could that one been a parts guitar? Looked Like an early all wood Bud cabinet without end plates, and the headstocks. I've seen similar ones around, but to be honest with you I haven't seen many early sho-buds that were alike. Seems like they experimented alot in those days. I've seen some that were pretty much knock off Bigsby style. I'm sure you all have seen them too!
Does any one have any historical info or early models of Sho Buds?
