Scheerhorn guitars are regarded as among the very best. I am not sure if Tim is currently building. Last time I ever chatted with him he had a massive amount of back orders to fill. Beard would be my next choice if I were buying.

If you are after a brass-bodied nickel-plated square neck I recommend Greg Beeton of http://www.beetonguitars.com who hand makes and engraves these beautiful and great sounding instruments. I have #1 Beeton squareneck Style3 Tricone which Greg made for me in the late 90's and it is stunning! Check out his website http://www.beetonguitars.com/index.html and a few of the musicians he has made instruments for.
1935 Rickenbacher B6, 1953 Leilani lap steel and matching amp, 2001 Beeton Style 3 Tricone square neck, 1934 National Style O, 1996 National Tricone

Tom, it's definitely a long time since you spoke with Tim. He closed his waiting list around 2006 and I believe he finished all the pending orders around 2009. He then built a small number of guitars for several years from what became known as his "wish list."Tom Keller wrote:Scheerhorn guitars are regarded as among the very best. Tim is mostly if not completely retired from building now. He worked out a deal with National Reso-Phonic here in California to build Scheerhorn Guitars several years ago, they hit the streets in early 2014.
I like to refer to them as "Nati-horns."
