Hi Forum,
Does anyone happen to know how the fast arpeggios are played on Goin' Back (by the Byrds)? I'm referring in particular to the part where lyrics go "Now there are no games to only pass the time..."

Hi, Aris.
The problem with transcribing this at 0:32 is that the steel is buried in the mix and its hard to hear the lower notes.
However, he does one particular picking pattern which is repeated in most of the following sections in the song (but not the first time, at 0:32).
To make it more complicated, he sometimes starts the pattern on beat '1', sometimes on the 'and' of 1, sometimes on beat 2.
And then in each case, he ends the pattern in a different way. Still, the DNA of the arpeggio's pattern seems pretty consistent (except for the very first time he does it, at 00:32)
You can hear it best at 3:16. You can go into the settings in YouTube (the little gear icon) and change the speed to 50%.

Fret 7, A-pedal down, hit the strings in this order beginning on beat 1:
5 4 3 4 5 1 (repeat)

Thank you so much, this is really helpful. I was trying something similar on fret 14, strings 7-6-5, rocking between A+B down and just B down, but it didn't sound like the original.
Now getting this arpeggio (even just the "DNA") straight at the original tempo is a real challenge for a beginner like me! |

| FWIW, Red didn't play an E9 guitar, so his voicings would be different. Hence the unorthodox fingerings, akin to tryingbto copy Sneaky Pete ! |

Ha right!!! And more than any other instrument you can get stuck trying to figure out a phrase that just seems IMPOSSIBLE until you realize that he's got a different tuning/copedent. |
