I normally use plastic picks on my acoustic steels -- Nat'l Style 1, Dobro 60-D, and Maui Maid (Weissenborn) Style 1. You can really dig in with 'em and get more volume out of an acoustic instrument than with metal fingerpicks.Erv Niehaus wrote:I haven't seen anyone use plastic finger picks for a long time
I started out with metal (Dunlop) fingerpicks on pedal steel, and switched to plastic ones on my acoustics at the suggestion of Bob Brozman, after attending one of his seminars in Minnesota in the late '80s.

I really enjoyed that! Thanks for posting. My brain doesn't seem to process that style of steel playing for my own music, but I admire folks like you who can play it so well.
