If you're looking for a pre-war Rick be careful. It is advertised as a 1937 model, but it looks like a less coveted post-war model. It has the narrower pickup, the "T" shaped logo on the head and the strings don't go through the body. [This message was edited by Gary Anwyl on 22 January 2002 at 02:29 PM.] |

You're RIGHT Gary, I noticed the same thing.
A little false advertising, I'd say. |

Yes, the seller is a little misguided in their description, it is a post WWII model.
This is still a great guitar and if it stays below $500 it's a bargain. I have the exact same model as this one and am very happy with it. It's got a very deep rich tone with tons of musically pleasing overtones. The string spacing is wide enough to make slanting a joy and not something to be avoided. It's got the metal inserts in the neck to battle the dreaded 'Bakelite heat/cold tuning problem'.
I'd buy this guitar again in a second.

I agree !!! I got mine from Ed's Guitars in Miami for $250. I think some folks are too quick to dismiss these post-war babies... [This message was edited by Rick Aiello on 23 January 2002 at 03:36 PM.] |

The Ricks advertised on eBay do not seem to be moving as fast as they once did? |

The market might be getting saturated at the price levels of a few months ago, so prices will come down. I noticed that a bakelite Rick Spanish guitar recently sold for about $1150, whereas a year or so ago, they were selling for around 2 large ones.
I faintly hear someone saying out there, "Herb, it's the economy, stupid."
As to the pre-war v. post-war, I have two pre-war Model B's and a post-war Model B. I don't think there's enough difference in sound to warrant the price discrepancy between the two vintages. Post-war Model B's still sound better, IMHO, than any other 6-stringer in their class, but of course, your mileage may vary.

I don't think it's fair to ask Jason to voice a public opinion about a client's instrument. |

Bob......in response to your question: One should examine closely the remarks/description that seller makes regarding this guitar. Determine what his standing is with Ebay and by word of mouth from prior purchasers of his products which are posted. Is it original? Do you want a collector piece? Do you want a guitar that sounds GREAT! Do you want a show piece? Do you want a functional instrument? IMHO one should look strongly at sellers PRIOR performances on eBay. Good Luck! |
