I've been at my Stage One for @ 2 years now, on and off. One issue has always been the ergonomics. I'm not tall (5' 11").....but I AM wide! My meaty things don't always fit that nicely under the steel, and I've been struggling all this time to find the right position, correct seat height, etc , etc.
Well, in frustration, I put the PSG away a couple weeks ago......but brought it out again today. One of the back legs must've gotten jostled and was set differently than the other, so I wasn't sure which was correct. I went with the longer height, and ended up with the steel tilted forward maybe 1/2-2/3 of inch beyond level.
Damn.
Everything worked better.
My wrist was in a more natural position. My legs fit under better. My feet worked the pedals easier, because there was more range of motion.
You guys!!! Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?!?!!?

I remember a steel player at ISGC that had his tilted forward so far that the strings were at about 40 degrees.
He played very well though. |

Paul's guitar always has a decent forward lean. _________________ Franklin D10 /Walker Sterio Steel JBL's /DigiTech Quad4/ Korg Toneworks/ Dobro DM 1000 / Santa Cruz Guitar VA |

During his seminar at this year's Texas Jamboree, Paul Franklin said that he tilts his steel foreard for two reasons. One is that he thought it looked cool when he was younger. The second is that his arms are more comfortable in that position; whatever works for you. |

Tilted forward is more natural position, better on the wrists. |

I figured that out almost immediately when I took up the steel. Very important for hand position. I also added a 1" board to raise the Pak-a Seat up so my stomach wouldn't be crunched. Makes it a lot easier to sing. |

I discovered years ago that a slight forward tilt improved my playing in general, blocking especially, and never looked back. I also have a knuckle join vertical KL extender on my Mullen that lowers that lever to just above my thigh. _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION
