I have a chance to buy either one or both of the steel guitars listed but they will be in poor condition like been stored in an attic or upstairs storage room for many years. What should I look for and about what price should I consider?

Known issues:
-- stripped gears in the tuners either from broken teeth or broken welds on the worm gear.
-- warped bobbins in the trapezoid pickups. If you are checking out one of the string-thru steels, make sure that the there is no string buzz from contact with the pickup and make sure the pickup is strong.
-- if the Stringmaster has the pushbutton neck selector switches, make sure they work ok. These historically tend to be problematic. |

If there are problems, it will be easier to source spare parts for the Stringmaster.
Also, depends on if you are keen to keep everything original or if it is mainly a player instrument. My Stringmasters were both asssembled from parts and I used individual toggle switches instead of radio buttons (if the later type Stringmaster or the DP it's just a Telecaster switch) though.
If both turn out to be in good working order, my preference would be the Dual Pro - those pickups sound amazing.
Or do the sensible thing and buy them both! |

Thank you Gentlemen for the information; if the prices are right, I'll do what the Gentleman from London suggested--buy both.
