| Thanks Jerry for telling me about the compensators. I did read that thread and it didn't answer my questions. I don't know where exactly to adjust the split. You will need an additonal "pull" rod on the 6th string to be able to tune the 6th string 1/2 tone (split). According to your picture you do not have the needed pull rod.
According to the picture, for the 6th string, you have the "B" pedal raise, the 6th string lower and the Black colored tuning nut for the "compensator" on the 6th string but no 2nd pull rod for the split.
The first thing to do is tune the full tone lower using the Lower nylon tuning nut for the 6th string. Then you push the "B" pedal down and then push the knee lever and tune the "second" pull rod on the 6th string for the half tone "split" stop. |

I emailed Jason and in his return answer I learned he is not dealing with splits but rather he has a half stop that is both on the 1st string and 6th string. I don't know how this happened but we need to help get it straightened out for him. Other than trying to time the 1/2 stops on both strings with only one 1/2 stop tuner is going to be touchy and I don't think this is what he needs. No wonder my email to him explaining adding another rod was confusing to him. I will get back to him.

Whatever the case, the only real way to get it resolved is to call Franklin Guitar. Paul (Sr) will get him on the right track.
The way he is setup (according to the photo) he is raising the 1st string. There is a "lower" rod connected to the 6th string.
Jerry, according to your post, he wants to raise the 1st string a half tone and lower the 6th string a half tone and have them happen at the exact same time. However on his original post he stated "I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the split on the 6th string using LKR w/ B pedal on my Franklin" - totally opposite of what you reported he told you.

Yeah Jack, he was referring to half stops when he called them splits. Thats what I got out of his email. It seems that he has half stops on 1st and 6th strings on one knee lever. I think he needs to discard a half stop on one of the strings.

| Sorry about the confusion guys. I started out trying to tune a split chord from my Buddy Emmons Chord Vocabulary chart where you press the a&b and lower the 6th string a whole step. That got me wondering about how to tune the half steps on the first and 6th strings since they share the same lever. Like I said too much time "under the hood". Will I ever get time to practice. Thanks again. |
