Marlen 3 x 4 SD10 conversion

Post by Darrin Beaton »

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and to the pedal steel. I recently purchased a proper psg, having been frustrated by a 3 x 1 wallpaper Maverick for a while. I am posting some pic's of the instrument and copedent, and any advice would be welcome on the care and feeding of this instrument. Specifically, is this an all pull, or a pull/release? Can you tell me what copedent the chart relates to? Day, Emmons...? I have set myself some lofty goals, the first being learning the Brumley break on Together Again, next is the Lloyd Green parts for The Byrds version of You Ain't Goin' Nowhere. If that all goes to plan, I have overdosed on the Emmons/Gatton version of Raisin' the Dickens from Redneck Jazz and NEED to learn how to do that. I am sure all you other obsessors can relate :D . As you can see from the pics, she needs a good once over, but I am certain I won't regret this purchase. If Mr. Bob Knight is still on the forum, the previous owner tells me this guitar once belonged to you? Thanks in advance for any help you folks can throw my way, and cheers!

Darrin, you have a great steel, this is Marlen's all pull version with a Emmons set up, should be a great guitar, the changer looks a little dirty, you might want to get it gone over, it will last you a lifetime, if you want to here a pro play a Marlen look up Tony Arwood on youtube.

Hi Gerald,

Thanks for reaching out to me, I appreciate the info. I will definitely be cleaning up the guitar before I really start to get going with it. I looked up Tony Arrowood, holy smokes! Listened to Under the Double Eagle, and that's the stuff right there! Thanks for the heads up on him.

Tony was the first person I thought of when I saw this topic.

I wonder what ever became of him.
