Hi,

This may be obvious to most here, but as a new psg player who is quickly becoming infatuated with some of the older Sho Bud and Emmons guitars, I have a question about what I am looking at when I see the undercarriages of these older guitars....

When I look under many modern guitars, I see what appears to be solid wood. When I look under a Sho Bud or older Emmons, I see what looks like MDF.

Are these older guitars made of plywood and covered with a laminate to make them look so pretty? Or are they solid wood instruments?

What am I looking at when I see certain guitars that look like they have a textured paint on them....sometimes I see what appears to be a turquoise color? Is it just paint sprayed over the wood?

A lot of 70s Sho-Buds have textured paint on the bottom, Emmons guitars had flocking (velvet looking). Both companies only made solid maple guitars.
