I have been told that the Evans stereo preamp I have is one of John's. I have seen some of his equipment and looked like he had a sticker he would put on the back. On the back of this preamp there appears to of been a label (sticker) but all that is left is the gummy residue from the sticker. And below that in white paint is the year 2004. Thanks in advance guys. Blair |

I think John had some mods done on that preamp.
That might have something to do with what you are finding on the back.

|
|
In a recent conversation with Brad Sarno, he said he did a mod on John's to reduce the highs. I was having the same issue with my Evans pre-amp, and after discussing the options with Brad, I decided to go the Black Box route, which has worked wonderfully. Brad said if things didn't work out, he could do a mod for me like he did for John. There might be a very remote chance that
Brad kept the serial number on John's, so you could find out if your's was the one he did the mod on for John. |

I played a gig last nite and used my Black Box with my SE200. I goosed the treble up to 3’ish and backed off the treble control on the BB. Worked quite nicely. |

John, that's close to how I do it, except I am around 2. Black Box 11 to 1 o'clock, depending on the venue. |

Thanks all for the help. I did get ahold of Brad and sent him pictures of the circuit board and it was one that Brad had done the treble mod on. Blair |
