4th pedal changes

Post by Gary Dillard »

If this has been discussed please direct me to a link.

Other than the "Franklin drop" what other changes do you or would you use the 4th pedal for E9th? If you do.

Raise 6 (G#) to A and lower 10 (B) to A.

Not all that popular, but, from the "0" position, I raise string six from G#-A#. Nice melodic change, but it also provides good seventh and ninth combinations with the A pedal (two frets below open).

For the last couple years I lower my G#s to G, ie flat the third for a minor cord. That one seems obvious, perhaps redundant though, so you don't see it often.

I raise the first string a whole tone (to G#) and the second string a half tone (to E) on P4. I got the idea from Tommy White's posted copedent. I use it often.

PS: That pedal also has a change on the C6th neck; lowering the fifth string a whole tone to F.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

That's the one I use on my 12 string extended E9 lowering strings 3, 6 & 11 to G ;-)
