I use a 1" X 3 3/4 weighs 11.5 ounces.
A Dunlop 921 Stainless Steel. It just barely covers the strings on my GFI S12U

The metal is some stainless alloy similar to that used in firearms, A magnet will grab and pick it up. A very hard metal too.

I like a 1" better than a 7/8". That 1/8" allows my finger and thumb to grip below the center of the curve on the bar, Giving me a lot better control of the bar. I am not just sliding it around, I can pick it up off the strings. And the weight takes very little down pressure for true clear notes.

If you can get access to a 7/8" and 1" and try both, To see which one fits your hand best.
Good Luck finding the size bar that fits and performs well.

I used a 1" bar playing 10 string so I just got a longer 1" when I went to a 12 string.

When do you need to cover all 12 strings?

BJS just started making a 4” 7/8 bar. I just got one that’s waiting for me to get home Monday and try out lol. 4” is gonna be a long bar. Works good with 10 or 12 strings. Do you have big hands ? If so I’d look into one.

You don’t , however if you’ve got big ole long hands like mine a four inch bar is what fits your hand best.

Thanks, Patrick - now I understand. I use a regular bar on my uni 12, but I guess I have regular hands Smile

I have a 12 string Mullen, and found my 10 string bar adequate for some things I play, but the 12 string bar works great too. I switch bars while playing. If I could only have one bar, it would be the 12 string bar. Haven't tried the 12 string bar on my 10 string guitar.

I have long fingers and have some trouble controlling the 10 string bars I have now,,especially when picking up the bar.
They are 1 inch bars and slightly too heavy for my preference doing hammer on licks Etc.
Paul Franklin recommends 7/8 inch bars for accuracy and control, and one that fits your bar hand.
In checking the ,BJS ,web site , I see they are out of stock , just my luck Sad

Message Butch . I got the last one but he told me he’s making another run of them after New Years.
