Excellant post, Norm, big time cool. Not enuf can be had. Tau and his wife's story is probably unparalleled in history, certainly unique and varied, and we only know the surface. I hope their fuller history is documented somewhere and that it surfaces eventually.
Altho I missed seeing Tau play in his better days, I lucked out and caught what everybody knew would be his final performance, teamed with fellow pre-electric legend Bill Tapia, on the stage of Honolulu's historic Hawaii Theater.
Not surprisingly, we hear vestiges in Tau's playing of his accoustic style, as those early timers usually retained much of the picking style common to that era. You don't hear that these days. |

That was great ! I hadn't heard Tau play in the old days. He had a style all his own for sure. I only remember him during one of the HSGA conventions in Waikiki, when he was a very old man. Quite a musical family.
Thanks for that Norman |

During the last 10 years of his life, I had the wonderful privilege of knowing and jamming with Tau and "The Family" at their home in Laie. I also introduced BOB BROZMAN to his `hero` from which came that great LP Bob produced ... awesome stuff! It's a 'collector's album' in which Bob, (along with Tau, Rose, Lani and Dorian), recreated the days when Tau was at his prime. A "must-have" for any serious collector ! The Tau Moe Family story is Hawaii`s equal to the Von Trapp Family story of Europe ... hopefully it will all be documented someday. |

I know this post is 6 years old, however I was wondering why Bob played Steel on the album as opposed to Tau playing steel? Was Tau unable to play steel at this point? |
