That's pretty darn early considering that historians put 1915, the year of the Hawaiian Pavilion at the San Francisco Panama-Pacific International Exposition, as ground zero for the Hawaiian music craze that swept the country.
It's also neat to see the ad for M. Nunes ukes, and the picture of George Kekuku, (who some credit as the inventor of the Hawaiian steel guitar)on the cover. |

That's cool it's from 1915...Dick Mcintire played in San Diego on a radio station here for awhile in the 1930'and worked with a publisher in LA (Ball Music..?) on a couple of Steel guitar studies of his style printed in Tab and Notation. He also lived and taught there before moving to Arizona to help with his respiratory illness.
There must of been a number of heavy weight Hawaiian steel players in LA when that style was very popular with the general public. I wonder if there was a hangout for that crowd somewhere in LA? |

I find advertisement captivating. Love the seaside drawing at the bottom too! Checking out old newspapers almost like time travel (but without the ability to bring back a souvenir) The Los Angeles Times Wed Mar 13 1918

Did not realize until now that Kekuku was also an Iriginator.

I-riginators come six letters before O-riginators, hence they hold a higher degree of provenance. _________________ A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first. |
