Post by Johnie King »

Robert at Harry An David’s Jackson steel guitar shop today. Robert trys the new Jackson Steel guitar strings the bass strings wrap is removed over the changer An nut roller bridge. Makes the bass strings sound like a grand piano an gives much longer sustain.
Robert gave the strings a big thumbs up.

Curious to hear the difference. Did you hear of any plans to post A/B sound comparisons?

Side note - Wonder if the chatter/scoring on the finger's bearing surface (I think that's what I see in the picture) from the traditional style string will become a buzzing or even tuning problem with the plain core riding over it, especially when it's lowered.

Johnie, you wrote "strings" as in plural. Do you mean "the bass string" or "the bass strings."

I'm only seeing the lowest string with the wraps removed.

Will the set contain more than one of the lower wound strings with the wrap removed? Is this just a trial run with one string only?

Mark ideally it would be all the bass strings.
A set would be for all wrapped strings David Jackson made just one the day Robert was there to try. There is a a vast improvement in sound an sustain.

No implications on the intonation? It seems like a non-homogeneous string like that would be inconsistent with respect to bar position.

I like it! There are reasons it works well on a piano, and it applies here.
