I have an Emmons LeGrande III that I just started having a problem with. There is a switch that works both necks. One position works the E9th, the middle works both necks and the third position works the C6th. My problem is when I have the switch set for the C6th psoition the E9th neck is on as well. Both necks are on in two positions when they should be working in the middle postion only. Just wondering if any of you guys ever had this problem and what solved it. Let me say the guitar has not been tampered with, this just started happening a day ago.

My guess is the switch is bad. I have 2 III's that I have been playing for 5 years and no problems with the neck selector switch yet.

Paul did it work right when you first got the Emmons. If it worked right when you first got it then the switch is bad.If it was that way when you got it then it is wired wrong. I have a new Emmons La Grande III SD-10 and I have switch that changes it from low tone to a higher tone. Well a freinds freind changed the pick up and the wires were all messed up. I have a freind that I met a month or so back that rewired it for me and it works fine now.

Paul, look on the switch to see if a "Jumper Wire" may be touching from the middle "Both" position, to your E-9th position. That could cause the problem. If so, just seperate the wires and that may fix your problem.
Switches do go bad, but I'd chack to see if any wires were touching before replacing it.

Paul,
One way to solve your problem would be to just send that LeGrande III to me. I could give it a nice new home.

Like Roger said, it can be just a single strand of small wire not easily seen so you need to look very carefully. I doubt if the switch is bad. Also the terminals on the switch are very close and in wiring in a pickup it it easy to get a solder puddle touching two terminals. Paul, I think I recall you asking about a possible pickup change for our guitar. Did you change a pickup? If so, check the solder joints to make sure you don't have solder touching two terminals. If you have a simple meter you can check for continuity between terminals that should not be connected.

Thanks guys for the help. I have had the steel for about 18 months. I have never changed the pickup or done anything to it. The tone defeat switch did go bad and I replaced it this morning. The guitar is working fine now. I guess there must have been some wires touching that was causing the problem with both necks being on when only one was supposed to be. Nick, I have considered your offer on sending this guitar to you. If I win that $192 million Friday night you can have the steel. I will be buying me some new guitars.
