Hi Damir, hi Henry, how do you clean the changers on old PSG?

The best way to clean a changer is take them apart and I soak them in Berryman carberator cleaner for about two days. That will get all the gunk and grease off them. Then take out and spray them good with simple Green to remove a lot of the cleaner. Rinse them with very hot water and use a tooth type brush to remove any gunk that may be left which usually isn’t. Put the changers in oven at about 250 for about 15 minutes to get rid of any water that may be left.
Oil the rivet pivot points with good oil and wipe them down good with a rag that has just a little touch oil on it. Then you can polish or what ever else needs to be done like string grooves on top. When you put back together, use an axle type grease on the bar but not too much. Just enough to coat it real good. Polish any imperfections of axle also if not too deep. If worn too much then axle will need to be replaced. I use a lathe at a friends house and fine Emory cloth to polish axle. Even though this Zum was a 79 model, the axle had very little ware so just a little polishing was needed.
