My Fessy D-10 steel has a great sound but it don't play
as good as the Zum I just sold,Untill these mods I made and It plays like a Zum now.
I made return springs .038 piano wire,for 8 floor pedals and
installed .042 nylon spacers at the front pull crank for spring clearance.I split the
.015 nylon washer and slipped it on the aft shaft 5/16 round end.I removed the 8 allen
floor pedal stop screws and installed 3/8 nylonstops that I countersank and installed
oval head nickel screws cut to length.With thread lock; I
Installed all nylon tips that I machined on all knee lever stop screws.I had to trim a
couple of brackets and relocate them to
accomodate the length.All knee levers that
mount on brackets had a .015 nylon spacer
between lever and bracket,that I installed.
I had to bend the floor pedal rod slightly
to clear the nylon floor pedal stops.
No more clack now , the action is quiet and
no more noise from pedal action.
Now it plays like the 4200.00 Zumsteel I can't afford.I played a Zum for 20 years,so
I was spoiled.Chuck Abend

You should have talked to Jerry about it. I have a 2001 Zum D10 and just bought a brand new D10 Fessy. It was perfect right out of the box. The only adjustments I made was the pedal heights and vertical knee heights. I actually like the way it plays better than the Zum... Mine played good the day i got it. But I made the travel shorter on the pedals, and that made it stiff. But when I'm playing fast, I had rather it be stiff, than long travel.

Too much work for me. But a lot of guys have the know how and somewhat enjoy doing these things. glad your guitar plays better to your liking now.

| When my used Fessy S12U got stolen, I traded up to a used Zum S12U. I didn't have to do a thing to it. The Fessy was a good guitar, but I prefer the action, mechanics, and gauged nut rollers of the Zum, as well as the looks. |
