OK, I found a video of the original and
1). It really does start with steel
2). Look carefully at the stage set. OMG.

This song does not make me think of Mississippi - neither the state nor the river. Those are some nice pumpkins though |

Is that you playing steel on the OldGuitarMonkey videos? I love it. |

Oh no! The original video is a total gas
The cover, I enjoyed if only for its absurdity. A short clip from Creature From The Black Lagoon at about the 2 minute mark and some actual steel playing might have made it an instant Steel On The Web classic. |

I don't know Fred, 4 million views is pretty good in YouTubeland. 108,000 subscribers! Old Guitar Monkey is doing something right. Okay, he's no Howard Roberts but he plays in tune. An old guy playing pretty songs with some slightly kitschy green screen effects, what's not to love? Needs more steel though. |

WTH, that original video!!! That looks like someone who watched a 5-second clip of a steel player and said, "yeah, I can fake it!" Really into those slants _________________ http://pedalsteelpodcast.wordpress.com |
