Cecil, I live up in Yankee-land, but we have a place in Cleveland which is not too far from you. We come down a couple times over the winter, expect to be there late January into February give or take.

I'm far from a polished player but would love to find some fellow steel to talk and jam with. What corner of Chattanooga re you in?

I'll certainly keep your info. There are 2 music stores in Cleveland, I have asked at both of them about anybody into our kind of music who might want to get together and jam. Both places said "Geez, years ago there was country all over the place, but now....nope". We're about 5 or 6 miles off Exit 20 so I'm sure we can manage to get together.

As for getting back into it after 38 years, I'm sure it will come back to you once you start playing again. You may find the equipment these days weighs a lot more than when you were 40 years younger!

Any steel players in Chattanoga area

Post by George Kimery »

Cecil, I am about 3 hours away between Greeneville and Johnson City, so it's a bit of a ride.

The NTSGA annual super jam is coming up in Nashville Sept 7 & 8. I highly recommend it. Sid Spiva hosts a one day jam in Knoxville a couple times a year. I think the next one is in the fall.

After such a long absence, a lot has happened. You have a lot of catching up to do, but it will be fun.

I will be more than willing to help in any way that I can. Just just me know.

Cecil,
I'm new to Chattanooga as well and from Dallas, TX. I play pedal steel but have a long way to go to get where I want to be. I'm primarily a banjo and mandolin player of 40 plus years. I'd love to get together with you sometime if you'd like. I really need to network this area for musicians.

I don't know how often Gordy Nichol reads the forum, but he's a pedal steel and upright bass player in Chattanooga. If you're on Facebook, he's one of my friends, and I'm Lane Stylgar Gray.
I believe I've seen him post that he gives lessons.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

If you Chattanooga guys are up for a three hour trip, please join us on the east side of Atlanta for the September 9th Georgia Steel Guitar Association show. Our special guest will be Johnny Cox. There are more details in the event section of the forum.

We would love to have you!

Hey Cecil, we're planning on coming down to Cleveland for a couple weeks. Leave NY about the 13th, head back north about the 28th give or take. Let me know if you'd like to meet up.

Anybody else so inclined, I'd be happy to hear from. I WILL be bringing my S-10 and already had an amp and a seat at our place down there.

Well, last call almost. We're leaving NY either Sunday or Monday and I don't have our own internet down there, might be able to check the forum from our daughter's. I've send a couple PM's and emails but nobody has responded yet.

That's OK, I'll lock myself away and practice all by myself!
