I just received a new Lawrence XR-16 12 string pickup for my Carter U12 from Becky Lawrence at "Wilde" pickups. I have a question that maybe someone can help me with since I can't ask Becky today being a holiday. I know that the white wire is hot. Do the black and red wires both go to the ground side of the jack? Thanks, George |

NO! I believe the red and white tie together for "full hum bucking sound, and the Black is ground. The red and the white are both + in case some would want to split. Try it and take an ohm reading to verify or just install the pickup and play. Good luck. |

Thanks Morton. If I can't get hold of Becky or Shannon in the next few days I'll try what you suggest. Thanks again, George |

Hi, George -- For my XR-16 (10-string), the pickup was hooked up like this: white is hot, black is ground and the red is only used if you want to split the coils. I just wound up the red coil and put a piece of electrical tape around the end so it wouldn't hit anything and short out. Pickup sounds great.
Hope this helps. Boo |

Hi Boo, I installed it in my Carter this afternoon doing exactly what you did. I just wound up the red wire and taped it to the underside. Yes, the pickup does sound very good. I came across a thread from last Nov. where the Lawrence people said to ignore the red wire. It would have helped if they had included some info on installation with the pickup. Thanks for your input. George |

Good call Boo, that's why I always recommend taking an ohm reading to verify. |
