I would like to put new stings on my regal
dobro and was wondering what some folks use
for string gauges. I use the G tuning. D,B,G
D,B,G. thank you. |

I use John pearse 3100 phosphor Bronze 16,18,27,39,49,59....but many co. make Dobro sets...you can even use D'darrio Heavy acoustic strings

I'm thinking that www.scottysmusic.com has whole pages of tunings and string gauge charts - Dobro tunings/gauges, as well as steel guitar information. If that turns out not to be the case, then I'll be a monkey's uncle AND eat my flat hat all at once . . .

I use Martin Dobro sets but you can use any acc or elec strings in the medum gage but use the first string the same as the second.. This will give some more volum and will give the first string more tension and wou will not push it out of tune as much and will not push it to the fingure board.

Dobro G Tuning
1. D .016
2. B .018
3. G .028
4. D .036
5. B .046
6. G .056
Strings # 3 through # 6 should be Nickel wound. This type of string has been slightly flattened in the winding process for a smoother surface.

| I have a round neck with a high nut, so I try to keep tension at a minimum while still having a good playing surface and lots of tone. Currently I use a D'Adarrio light gauge phosphor bronze set for 4,5 & 6. 1,2 & 3 are 18, 18 & 24 Plain, I don't like the tone of the 24 Plain, so next time I am going to try something else. If I had a squareneck, I would at least try a John Pearse reso set. I think heavy strings work very well for lap style reso. Experiment. |
