Ken:
This is very cool!
On the bottom of my MSA guitar it says "Designed by Bud Carter", and I am aware from corresponding with Maurice Anderson that comment refers to the mechanical portion of the guitar only.
Did Bud also design all the other guitars he lists on his website?
This is great stuff ... I haven't seen my owner's manual in over 20 years!
Thanks for the info! |

In addition to the MSA mechanics (all the parts underneath and in the changer), Bud and an employee named Malcolm White (who was a draftsman and engineer) designed every part that needed to fit the mechanics (body, endplates, necks, keyheads, pickup blocks, etc.).
Bud did not do any cosmetic design.
In addition to the various models of MSA from 1964 through the end of MSA Micro, Bud also designed MCI (a lot of that design was used in the EMCI) and, of course, the Carter Steel Guitar.
Bud has also shared designed ideas and helped other builders solve problems (as other builders have also contributed to Bud's knowledge).

Well, it's just "one man's opinion", but I think Bud and Malcom are pretty darn cool!
Thanks for the additional comments. |

Good info John! My MSA was also signed by Bud Carter! I have a Carter U-12 now and am excited about having this MSA set up like my U-12 Carter (I love my Carter!!). I have a lot to learn, taking it all apart and adding changes. It will be a great learning experience for sure.
Glad to provide theh link and thanks to John Fabian and crew for the work done on their site. |

I have been lucky enough to have the benefit of Bud's evolving design capability, I played a MCI for 20 years and now have a new Carter !! |

I have a single u12 MSA that Rick Troyer and David Decker setup for me here in Columbus Ohio, you might have to drive 80 miles north of Columbus to Hummingbird music studios to get it setup, they did a fine job on my MSA. steveb. |
