Was given to me by his widow Anna some 20 years ago - she had kept it under her bed since he died in 1954. I promised her I would play it, and I did -- but now it needs a new home. I have the original bridge, tuners, strings and case and one original manuscript in his handwriting --- she told me that 'this is the one with all the mileage on it' --- i believe it was the 2nd last one he used.

It is a Rickenbacker bakelite --- for the 'right' home it will come quite cheaply --- offers ? I will be attending the AISGA in July --- will bring the original case, bridge, tailpiece and strings --- y,all may be interested to know that his 1st string was .017, 2nd was .015 and 3rd was .022 --- I was surprised but came to realise that it worked really well on songs like Hapa haole Hula girl --- it facilitated 'bouncing.

Is it one of his later guitars, ie. used during his ministry? I love the hymn recordings he did in the 40s, it's unexpected how well the instrument and style adapts to those old hymns. As a bit of a small world thing, last year I found out my uncle from LA remembered Sol coming to play at his church when he was a boy! Doesn't remember much else...

I have no idea how to price it --- would welcome suggestions --- more interested in finding it a good home.

Auction at the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival in Sept., maybe?Loren Tilley wrote:One of the great thing about auctions is the market sets the price. Maybe if there was a way to auction it among people who were pre-qualified as being a “good home Just an idea.
A forum search of "Panda" in the For Sale: Steel Guitars section indicates they sell anywhere from $600 - $1000 depending on a variety of factors (condition, prewar-postwar, case, etc.) with most selling in the $700-$800 range. I expect your guitar is more valuable but maybe that gives you a starting point.
About four years ago someone offered one of Joaquin Murphey's Rickenbackers for $1000 on the forum. It had a buyer within minutes but the seller (understandably) had second thoughts and withdrew it from the market.

A good home would be the Hoopii family I would think..
I was researching if Isaac Hoopii of the Aloha Boys was related to Sol, and this link came up.

The plates were white, I had them chromed - also the tailpiece was replaced with an adjustable bridge [the strings now 'come up' through the body] --- I kept the original parts - they come with the original case.
I do not plan to attend the Fort Collins convention --- am planning to drive to Winchester [been 7 years since I attended any convention] --- to be honest I would be prepared to 'give it' to the right person.

Ian, can we talk about Sol’s guitar? Give me a call at 908-421-1774 or email at mike@mikeneer.com please.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Have you considered donating this fine instrument to the Musical Instruments Museum in Scottsdale, AZ?

Hey, Mike (Neer): Did you learn anything worth sharing from the call? Was it sold?
