Steeler on a Neko case recording?

Post by Joachim Kettner »

I like the Garciaesque style of playing! I wonder who this was.

Possibly Jon Rauhouse, as parts of the album were recorded in Chicago.

Thanks to you both. Why'd you call him a mad scientist, Chris?

I saw him play, I can't remember if it was with Freakwater or Anna Fermin & Trigger Gospel, but he was tearing it up. As the set progressed, he just seemed to get deeper & deeper into the music, and he seemed to veer into stranger & stranger (but still very musical) territory. Like some scientist in the lab concocting something....explosive? His facial expression seemed to follow suit. He's was a great fun to listen to & watch.

Jon lives in Phoenix. You can connect with him as he is active on FB. Two years ago he and a guitar player (sorry I don't remember the name at this moment) played a really tight set of Speedy/Jimmy tunes and written/arranged deeper stuff at the SwSWGA show. I was on bass and struggled to keep up with their complex original tunes. Great musicians.

That guitar player was Tommy Connell. He’s a fantastic guitarist. Tommy has played on several of Jon’s steel guitar albums.

That was a cool set and one the highlights for me that year! You sounded great, Bill.

I first saw Jon play over 20 years ago in a local band, the Grievous Angels, doing spot on Sneaky Pete licks..

Quite a talented musician who can play way outside the box. He has been playing with Neko Case for many years now; and she sure can sing!
