Old MSA for sale

I have an MSA that I would like to sell. Iâ€™m not sure of its exact age but from what I understand, itâ€™s possibly from the early 70â€™s. There are a couple of things I need to make known about this guitar. It has an odd scale of 24 1/2 , not sure why. Also it has a Sho-Bud fretboard, not MSA. (see pics).

It plays but could benefit from a good set up and changer cleaning. Perhaps a nice project piece?

Looking for the best offer starting at $700 + shipping.

Terrance, this is not a bid site, you got to be asking for more on this guitar, like $2,000.

I guess I don't understand. I said I will buy it. I thought that is enough. I'll take it. I will pay what you asked. Thought that would do it. I may be a little to naive and anxious to get into a decent pedal steel for the meager amount of money that I have. I could have misunderstood what was posted.

My 1960 Sierra S-10 and the Dewey Kendrick D-8 have a 24.5" scale as do a lot of the older steels.
I'm no expert so not sure when the 24.25" and 24" scales became the standard.
Also not sure how many older ones had the 24.5" scale, but I have 3 including my Clinesmith T-8 with that.

Maybe one of the builders will know and post.

To me that looks like an old MSA Classic works, looks like someone made a custom body, they removed the tone and volume controls, also my 1974 Msa classic has a 24 1/4 scale. all said and done still looks like a great buy.Jim Goins

Mike, good question and why I mentioned the scale and SB fretboard. Obviously intonation will be less accurate as you get higher up so good idea to replace. I recently read a post by someone who does excellent work with replacements including 24.5

When did the forum become an Auction site. This guitar is well worth around 1500.00 maybe more with the split cases. Just set a price and or best offer

We don't have a rule against auctions, but I do think it's a bad idea. Usually, "best offer" means a price below the asking price, as in "$2000 or best offer". I'm prepared to pay the full $700, if that's what it takes.

In all seriousness, I suggest that Terrance should set a realistic asking price before people come to blows over this.

This guitar will need new changers, I think the sound is unbalanced especially when the changer end is milled out, on the classics they had holes for the pedal rods which kept the 2 raised 2 lower changers balanced on pulls and for pull rods, this guitar needs different types of changers to make it balanced in sound.

Yep, Jack, it needs those MCI changers 3 raise two lowers, or Sho-Bud style 3 raise two lowers or 3 raise 3 lowers, wood looks fabulous.
