Over the last several months I have been noticing on the Legrande II that I was adjusting the E9th 2nd, 9th and C6th 3rd string drops often. All on the same lever, RKR.
I even went underneath and made a few bell crank position changes as it just seemed that the PULL was near the end of it's travel.
This has probably been going on for much longer but the L-II mostly sat in the case in between gigs. But over the last few months it has been setup as the practice axe and the other guitar stays in the case and goes to gigs.
Well, a few days ago I had enough. I stopped practicing.
This morning I took off all the rods and bell cranks for the 3 affected strings . I even pulled the knee lever / mounting bracket. Everything looked good.
I then removed the 1/2 stop assembly and the bell crank that connects the K Lever to the cross shaft.
WOW !
After examining the parts, the bell crank which connects the K Lever rod to the cross shaft was found to be bent, broken, whatever, but still in one piece. It appears that each time I executed the K Lever, it bent a tad more causing the PITCH issue. I did adjust the pull slot on this bell crank previously but didn't notice the bend which is now real obvious ! The bend got seriously worse. It crossed the chasm !
Installed a new bell crank and that's that ! I gave all the pulls a bit of extra "PULL distance" so they are not maxed out.
Good as new for a 1995 Guitar !

Yes. Some years ago I'd had a couple of Carter bellcranks slowly let go. Different spot but same effect. Gradual enough to be an irritant but not a failure. Until it was a failure. They eventually redesigned the crank. When you see evidence that you are not crazy, it is an uplifting moment, briefly. |

Tony, I have seen that same problem in many LeGrandes. Like you, I lost sleep thinking about the why? When I figured it out it was a big relief! _________________ Emmons D-10, ST-10,LD-10 III, NV-112,Fender Deluxe Reverb. Authorized wholesale dealer musicorp.com! |

Well Doug, I have to admit, I don't lose sleep over much these days !
I marked the date on my google calendar, I'm gonna check the bell crank in 22 years... _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,
